Resolve India’s Urban Housing Crisis by Integrated Township and Slum Demolition

A research done by Cushman & Wakefield and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry has come up with a fact that India’s urban zone is facing shortage of 19 million housing. The gap might get increased if the housing demand remains unfulfilled. To cope up from this concerned issue, government has to play a crucial role in order to provide affordable housing and bringing development schemes for city planning. The city planning and redevelopment should be done in such a way that millions of people in India who are homeless can get the affordable houses. It’s the right time to wake up and think about the projects that can meet the needs of homeless people. It has observed that most of the reputed developer’s focus is on luxurious projects, but the slight shift in focus i.e. urban housing shortage of EWS and LIG can bring a drastic change in the lives of homeless people as well as rate of shortage of houses.

Boost and Build Integrated Townships

According to the report of C&W, the developers are coming up with the integrated townships where a large region is available. In these regions, the development contains retail, commercial, residential, hospitals and schools to make a perfect township where every amenity remains close proximity. Thus, developers are focused to promote the concept of integrated township to enhance the living standard of most of the states. With this initiative, the developers will provide impetus to redevelopment and bring better living option to not only lower class, lower middle class people but even to large number of slum people.

The problem of slum people can be resolved easily by creating better quality housing and demolishing the temporarily slums and housing dwellers of different locality. But, unfortunately redevelopment in India is really a troublesome task as it is a matter of politics in India where tenants are least interested in moving to the temporary houses. As a result, redevelopment in India is really very intrinsic. Thus, redevelopment in India can be planned by the involvement of government. If government and builders both join hands together then, it can be executed perfectly. It can even become the most effective issue for the entire society, region and cities.

If both works together for the well-being of the society then there are few things that are required to keep in mind are Floor Space Index (FSI) and vertical growth. This led to create a perfect redevelopment in most of the cities of India including popular cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
